About the event
This Sumie (Japanese Ink Painting) introduction workshop is a part of our Art-based Community Program at Musical Between. Sumi (Japanese black ink) is also used for Japanese calligraphy, where people write their resolutions for the year using the calligraphy technique. So, it would be nice if we could try Sumie at the beginning of the year! This workshop is a one-off event, inviting a Sumie artist/teacher. __________________________________ ・Date & Time: 28 Jan 2024, 2-3pm ・Venue: Musical Between, Unit2/370 Pennant Hills rd. [Artist Profile] Masayo Colley is an artist, graphic designer and art teacher from Sydney. She is inspired by Japanese traditional ink painting techniques (Sumie). Masayo is passionate about brush stroke movement in Sumie. As a graphic designer, she uses a computer for her work, but this can't reproduce the movement and impact of a real brush and ink. She is constantly trying to maximise the expression of beauty through free-hand drawing.
